Carmen Tunney was born in Leicester to Estonian parents, refugees from WW2, Carmen grew up in a world surrounded by music. Her father was an accomplished musician and instilled in her the love of many different styles of music. She learnt to play the violin from the age of 10 and was a member of the Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra for many years, before going to Leeds University to study Music and French for a BA Hons degree. She lived in France for 9 years, working alternately as a bi-lingual secretary and interpreter, and exponent of Estonian music within the Baltic Community in France.
