Carmen Tunney was born in Leicester to Estonian parents, refugees from WW2, Carmen grew up in a world surrounded by music. Her father was an accomplished musician and instilled in her the love of many different styles of music. She learnt to play the violin from the age of 10 and was a member of the Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra for many years, before going to Leeds University to study Music and French for a BA Hons degree. She lived in France for 9 years, working alternately as a bi-lingual secretary and interpreter, and exponent of Estonian music within the Baltic Community in France.

She now lives in Melksham with her husband and three children and is a peripatetic violin teacher in Wiltshire schools. She plays in various local ensembles such as the Trowbridge Philharmonic, Calne Choral, Chippenham Cantata and White Horse Opera. There are also opportunities to play string quartets for weddings and corporate events. She has a great love of folk music and is a member of the Celtic folk trio called Wessex Contraband, where she plays fiddle as well as accordion, mandolin and whistle.
